Who can become an EMT?
Persons with a high school diploma or its equivalent are eligible to apply for EMT training programs. Some schools specify that candidates should have certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation from an acceptable agency such as the Red Cross. Such schools do not accept candidates without this certification. In other schools, this is not mandatory at the time of applying to the EMT course but the applicant should complete this education before he or she begins the EMT training program.

How to Prepare?
If you wish to become an EMT, take high school courses in subjects such as science, mathematics and computer science to learn the basics of the subjects that will be covered during your EMT basic training. Work as a volunteer with a local hospital or firefighting department and gain some experience in dealing with accident and trauma victims. Not only will this prepare you emotionally for the actual job of an EMT, it will also help you gain an advantage at the time of admission to a reputed EMT training program of your choice.
